4 fields of excellence:

  • Molecular machinery involved in gene expression, cellular identity and diseases mechanisms
  • Regulatory RNAs across kingdoms and dynamical responses to biotic and abiotic stresses
  • Mitochondrial functions, dysfunctions and diseases, interaction of mitochondria with the rest of the cell
  • Innovative therapeutic strategies addressing the next unmet medical needs in liver disease and cancer

Each of the Laboratory of Excellence benefits from a national grant since 2012

Our four research clusters

INRT

INRT gathers 47 internationally recognized teams, 5 national/international infrastructures and supporting facilities in a single research unit the Institute of Genetic Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC). The institute focuses on the identification and characterization, both structural and functional of factors involved in gene expression and genetic diseases along with elucidation of their contribution to regulatory mechanisms that control development and homeostasis in multiple model organisms.

NetRNA

NetRNA gathers internationally recognized research teams with complementary expertise (genetics, bioinformatics, structural biology, immunology, plant biology, microbiology…) integrating diverse disciplines into a coherent project with objectives centered on the role of RNAs in infectious diseases. The NetRNA project is aimed to generate an integrated view of the RNA-based strategies developed by pathogens (viruses, bacteria, parasites) and their hosts (human, insects, plants) during infection but also on the insect strategies to resist viral infection.

MitoCross

The objective of MitoCross, gathering 6 teams in Strasbourg, is to deepen the knowledge of the molecular mechanisms governing mitochondrial biogenesis, genetics and cross-talk with the nucleus, to characterize the involved actors in different biological systems and to subsequently exploit this knowledge to understand the biochemical mechanisms underlying mitochondrial diseases, to envision agronomic applications and to model innovative therapies.

HepSYS

HepSYS is built on a top-level team of molecular and cell biologists, virologists, bioinformaticians, surgeons and hepatologists from the Strasbourg University Institute of Viral and Liver Disease, the Center of Digestive Disease and Hepatology of the Strasbourg University Hospitals (HUS) and the IHU Institute for Image-guided surgery. A hallmark of the HepSYS world-class research program is the integration of basic, translational and clinical investigation resulting in high impact discoveries being translated into the clinic. By providing a novel understanding of liver disease biology and the discovery of novel targets and biomarkers, the LabEx HepSYS will impact the management of patients with liver disease and cancer in France, Europe and beyond.
